Fees & insurance

Fees

Fees are determined by the length of the appointment. As of January 1, 2026:

Initial consultation, 15 minutesFree
Initial evaluation, 75 minutes$875
Initial evaluation as two 60-minute sessions$700 each
Follow-up, 45 minutes$500
Follow-up, 30 minutes$350

Typically, therapy patients are seen weekly or twice weekly for 45 minutes, and medication management patients are seen every one to three months for 30 minutes. Frequency and length of appointments are determined collaboratively and revisited over the course of treatment.

Insurance

I do not participate in any commercial insurance plans. If you have out-of-network benefits and wish to seek reimbursement, I will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. A superbill includes the diagnosis and billing codes an insurer requires to process a claim. Whenever possible, I split fees across two billing codes to maximize your reimbursement.

Terms that determine what your insurance compensates

Allowed fee

Also known as the reasonable and customary fee: the fee an insurance company deems is reasonable for a given medical billing (CPT) code, which is used to determine reimbursement rates. The codes I use include 99204/90833 (initial evaluation), 99213/90836 (45-minute follow-up), and 99214/90833 (30-minute follow-up).

Deductible

The amount you have to pay upfront before your insurance starts reimbursing you.

Coinsurance

The percent of the allowed fee you have to contribute per appointment after meeting the deductible. Your insurance will then reimburse you the remainder up to the allowed fee.

Out-of-pocket maximum

The maximum amount you need to spend in a year on the deductible and coinsurance, after which the insurance will cover 100% of the allowed fee.

Questions to ask your insurer

Before your first visit, it can help to call the member-services number on your insurance card and ask: Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met? What is my coinsurance? What is the allowed amount for CPT codes 99204 with 90833, 99213 with 90836, and 99214 with 90833? I am happy to help you interpret the answers.
